This installation, reminiscent of Alexander Calder’s mobiles or Joan Miro’s canvases, was commissioned for Elfi Turpin’s exhibition Un couteau sans lame et dépourvu de manche held at the CRAC Alsace (Centre rhénan d'art contemporain) in 2019 to a soundtrack produced in collaboration with Ndayé Kouagou. The music, which conjures up contemporary figures of female warriors from popular culture (TV series theme music), accompanies a work inspired by Monique Wittig’s utopian novel Les Guérillères (1969) about a community of lesbian women. In the mauve tones of feminism, Tarek Lakhrissi’s spears and arrows evoke the idea of struggle, while their suspension in space is a metaphor for language’s emancipatory dimension. The work also takes on the form of the novel, with its short paragraphs inspired by the medieval chanson de geste, a type of text with a military plot.

Text written by Louise Glodt-Chauchoy as part of the partnership between the École du Louvre and Lafayette Anticipations – Fonds de dotation Famille Moulin.
