Designed by Yuli Serfaty as part of the Horny, Aimless & Alone project, the aluminium sculpture Protract, painted in a military shade of green, evokes a picnic table. Exhibited alongside the film Hunter Killer Father Lover, it contributes to the creation of an immersive environment. The shiny, translucent traces of UV varnish suggest the passage of the phallic- shaped mutant creature that wanders alone, deprived of virility and sexual power. Its camouflage blends into the colours of the forest, echoing the codes of military concealment. This mimicry recalls the historical use of camouflage in military and colonial contexts, while also resonating with certain contemporary dynamics of ecological manipulation. Serfaty thus extends her reflection on anthropocentric action, inviting us to question what we perceive as “natural” and its use as an instrument of power.
