The Fire on the Sea, sculpted by Jean-Marie Appriou, is made up of two figures who seem to come from a world of water.

One of them, with a worried expression, seems to be looking beyond her surroundings, towards the future or the past of what is playing out before our eyes. The other wears the mask of the ama, the Japanese ‘women of the sea’ who freedive to fish and feed their families. Endowed with a fascinating ability, they perpetuate an ancient practice dating back thousands of years and lead a life between the worlds of land and water.
