Cyprien Gaillard's work combines collage, photography, sculpture, performance and video.
He received numerous prices such as Arken Art Prize and Award for Best Experimental Short Film, Melbourne International Film Festival (both 2016), Preis der Nationalgalerie (2011) and Prix Marcel Duchamp (2010). Gaillard holds a degree from L'École Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne.
His work questions the traces left by human beings and our relationship with the world, particularly through architecture and built spaces. He was commissioned by the Museum für Moderne Kunst in 2021 to create an installation in the public space. On the edge of the business district, a ventilation column conceals a circular volume clad in pink onyx that opens up towards the sky. This monument, Frankfurter Schacht, which commemorates nothing, is accessible to all. It is a place of intimacy in the middle of the city that everyone can make their own.
