In partnership with the artists’ collective Le Wonder
The artist Antonin Hako, recipient of the 5th Emmaüs Solidarité Prize for Contemporary Creation, presents a collective performance in the form of shadow theatre.
This performance, developed as part of the art workshops organised by Transfo, the cultural centre run by the Emmaüs Solidarité association, brought together around ten residents.
Behind the canvas screens, the participants appear as silhouettes, creating unique presences, fragments of stories and life journeys. Little by little, the bodies meet, respond to one another and occupy a shared space.
Each person repurposes everyday objects to turn them into creative tools: an umbrella becomes a paintbrush, a mop leaves its mark, a bouquet of flowers transforms into a painting instrument. From these gestures emerge unexpected marks, gradually composing a shared image.
At the crossroads of theatre, shadow theatre and performance painting, this piece explores the notions of encounter, transformation and collective creation. It reveals the transition from the individual to the group.
His practice explores the possibilities of an expanded form of painting, conceived as a medium capable of occupying space, transforming itself and interacting with its surroundings. Drawing inspiration from the forms, practices and techniques found in the public realm, as well as from the worlds of set design, theatre and cinema, he borrows gestures, tools and protocols from the automotive industry, urban signage and material maintenance systems, transposing them into the field of contemporary art.
Through painting, installation and performance, Antonin Hako explores themes of movement, temporality and the conditions under which images emerge. His work has been exhibited at the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon, the Frac Bretagne, the Frac Normandie, the MMCA in Seoul, La Seine Musicale and Révélations Emerige. His works feature in several public and private collections, including those of the Frac Bretagne, the Frac Normandie, the Deji Art Museum and the City of Bobigny.
