Jessi Reaves’s sculptural work approaches furniture both as a material and a subject, breaking down the boundaries between art and design, functionality and aesthetics. Through a series of gestures that are as rigourous as they are playful, the artist transforms Western design objects into sculptures, aestheticising and eroticising them while revealing their latent potential. Reaves’s works disrupt the properties or characteristics of the furniture with which we share our private spaces, questioning the binary thinking and categorisations that are still widespread today.
