Jala Wahid is an artist of Kurdish origin who works in the fields of sculpture, video, sound, and installation. Her practice is based on archival research that explores the hidden aspects of Kurdish history and politics, which she contrasts with colonial rhetoric and the impact of cultural dismantling. These materials give rise to works that evoke what has been erased, while acknowledging that this is always a partial and incomplete expression. Wahid often favours a deliberately joyful, even delirious aesthetic as a counter-narrative to the discourse of the colonisers.
Born in 1988 in London (United Kingdom), Jala Wahid graduated from Goldsmiths College (2014) and the Royal Academy of Arts (2019) in London, where she lives and works.
