Matthieu Gasnier

Sound engineer, composer, and sound artist, Matthieu Gasnier develops a cross-disciplinary practice at the intersection of visual arts, performance, and cinema.

Graduated from ENS Louis Lumière, he brings his expertise to ambitious projects, collaborating with artists and filmmakers to expand the sonic dimension of their work.

He composed the scores for the films Meteors by Hubert Charuel and Stela by Anca Hirte, and served as sound editor and mixer on numerous films including La Fille de son Père by Hubert Charuel, The Substance by Coralie Fargeat, and L'amour c'est surcoté by Mourad Winter.
His practice as a sound artist and composer leads him to collaborate with artists across a wide range of disciplines, including video art, choreographic performance, and contemporary art. Combining field recording, musical composition, and sound design, he develops a hybrid musical practice situated between ambient music and field recording. With a particular interest in texture, Matthieu works from raw material to craft original musicalities and atmospheres that are as much experienced as they are heard.

He has composed and produced the sound design for works such as Là où commence le ciel and Follow the Water by Pauline Julier, presented at the Centre Pompidou; Terre, Air, Feu by Maxime Rossi; En Dessous la Forêt and Ce que le ciel ne sait pas by Feda Wardak at the Festival de Marseille; Time Erosion and Spinning Mirrors by Sophia Taillet, performances presented at the Fondation Pernod Ricard and the Musée de la Chasse; and Centre of the Centre by Mel O'Callaghan at Artspace, Sydney.
