Chino Amobi

Born in 1984 at Tuscaloosa, Alabama (USA).
Chino Amobi creates worlds.

An American artist of Nigerian descent, Amobi’s total installations crack open the door to an alternate universe: a place where everything is at once strange and familiar, where reality disconnects and beings dissolve. By synthesising strategies drawn from film, literature, contemporary music, and art Amobi opens the aperture of what is at stake in how modes of conceiving the future and past are constructed and employed.

Amobi's work has recently been shown in solo exhibitions, including Age of Excess at Meredith Rosen, New York (2022); Sextant, at Fitzpatrick Gallery, Paris (2022); EROICA, Liste Art Fair, Basel (2021); EROICA, Luma Westbau (2021); and in various group shows, at Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (2024), Karma International, Zurich (2023); Residence Gallery, London (2022); Meredith Rosen Gallery, New York (2022); Fitzpatrick Gallery, Paris (2022).

He has also performed in institutions such as the MoMA PS1, NYC (2022); KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2021); Institute of Contemporary Art, Richmond (2019); MoMA Museum of Modern Art, New York (2017), ICA London (2017). In 2020 the artist published EROICA, and took part in the residency ArtExplora, Paris (2020-21).
