Nicolas Becker
With each new project, he develops an original and bespoke working process, tailoring his approach to the singular vision of every film. He has collaborated with a distinguished roster of filmmakers, including David Cronenberg, Mathieu Kassovitz, Andrea Arnold, Alain Resnais, Gaspar Noé, Chantal Akerman, Raúl Ruiz, Danny Boyle, Marco Ferreri, Alex Garland, Alfonso Cuarón, João Salgado, Raymond Depardon, Philippe Grandrieux, Darius Marder, Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, Denis Villeneuve, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Ugo Bienvenu, among others.
Fifteen years ago, his encounter with conceptual artist Philippe Parreno opened the door to the worlds of sound installation and sound art. Since 2009, Becker has overseen the sound design and musical direction for all of Parreno’s exhibitions worldwide. He has also collaborated with artists such as Pierre Huyghe and Cyprien Gaillard.
In 2021, Becker received both an Academy Award and a BAFTA for his work as sound designer and supervising sound editor on Sound of Metal. Since then, he has supervised the sound for Bardo directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, Le Règne Animal directed by Thomas Cailley, Dahomey directed by Mati Diop, Harvest directed by Athina Rachel Tsangari, and Arco directed by Ugo Bienvenu.
In 2023, Becker began composing music for the choreographer Wayne McGregor. He also co-founded the band The New Atlantis with Tarek Atoui. In 2024, he established a collective and record label, Invisible Mountain, together with music producer Lexx and A&R Stephen Christian.
Today, Becker continues to expand his work in film scoring through Invisible Mountain, while performing increasingly with The New Atlantis on stages around the world.
