Architect and doctoral student in architecture, Milena Charbit proposes revisiting the ‘Design your fantasy environment’ workshops initiated by Phyllis Birkby and Leslie Kanes Weisman in the 1970s.

In keeping with these emancipatory practices, the workshop invites participants to imagine and represent spaces free from the norms and constraints of patriarchal architecture, through a sensitive and collective approach.

Using large rolls of paper, each participant is invited to give shape to their ideal environment, in dialogue with the other participants and with Milena Charbit, who accompanies the creative process while taking part in it.

This creative time is followed by a moment of exchange and discussion, where shared visions, desires and imaginations question the possibility of conceiving architecture differently, outside of frameworks, hierarchies and dominant narratives.

Milena Charbit is an architect, lecturer at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles and PhD student in architecture at the LéaV laboratory (research laboratory of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles), in partnership with the Casa de Velázquez.

An exhibition curator and author of several books, she has just completed a research project on Lesbian Architecture, published in September 2025 by Shed Publishing.
