With its Chippendale-style curved chair legs, this sculpture at first evokes a melancholy pas de deux, but the arabesque, a little too raised, immediately recalls the contortionists recurrent in the artist's films and photographs, whose performances oscillate between horror and fascination. By questioning the mechanisation of the body through fashion or dance, Markus Schinwald also explores its physical and mental extension in a petit-bourgeois furniture.
