Nature morte au bureau avec PowerMac G5, Liévre et porte document

Nature morte au bureau avec PowerMac G5, lièvre et porte-document is one of the works presented by Thibault Hiss for his degree at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. The title, which lists the elements of the composition, places the piece in the tradition of the still life. The hare, traditionally associated with speed since Aesop’s fable, here appears life-size in a posture reminiscent of classical pictorial representations of the dead animal. Instead of celebrating speed, it seems stifled by it, trapped by efficiency and productivity. The streaks of Post-it notes running through its innards transform the animal into a hybrid organism, symbolising a world dominated by bureaucracy and machines. Through this work, Hiss offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the still life, in which the hare becomes a reflection of a world crushed by the requirements of productivity.
