Laundrette is an immersive installation created for the Coming Soon exhibition. It evokes a laundrette, with three seats and three washing machines transformed into veritable “light machines” thanks to elements such as flashing lights and diffraction glass that produce kaleidoscopic effects. With this installation, the artist invites us to enter an everyday place where the experience of waiting materialises and opens up a new visual perception of space. This laundrette is characterised by the absence of a programmed cycle: time is deprogrammed, reflecting the unpredictability imposed by illness. The work is inspired by a scene from the French film Tom and Lola (1990), in which two children with compromised immune systems live inside a sterile bubble in a hospital and play on a pile of sheets, surrounded by washing machines.
