This biblical scene, which takes place in a bourgeois apartment, draws on certain conventions of religious painting while disrupting them. While the three women in turn embody Mary Magdalene, bare-breasted, the Virgin at her child’s side, and Mary of Cleophas alongside the bearded man as Joseph of Arimathea, the devil appears in the background, dangling his sinister snake above the coffin. From this temporal and stylistic collage of accessories, outfits, and poses, an inescapable sense of déjà-vu transpires.

Victor Man
Born in 1974 in Cluj, Roumanie
Les sculptures, sérigraphies et peintures murales de Victor Man font cohabiter les matériaux et les tonalités les plus diverses entre mélancolie et sensualité : « Cette coprésence de matières et d’univers témoigne d’un art puissant de l’oxymore », écrit à son propos Ève Beauvallet (« Memory-Man », Mouvement, mai 2009). Les œuvres de Victor Man possèdent également une dimension autobiographique certaine car elles déconstruisent des mythologies personnelles, mais également historiques.
Né en 1974 à Cluj (Roumanie), Victor Man vit et travaille entre Cluj et Rome.
