DECADENCE is the second chapter in a trilogy of videos set during a fictional high-profile rape trial in Florida in the 1990s. Inspired by the genre of erotic thrillers and televised trials of the time, the project revolves around the imaginary affair between the defence lawyer and the jury foreman who acquitted a rapist whose name remains confidential. The elliptical editing of this second chapter incorporates both the events of the night of the alleged rape and the celebration following the acquittal. The trilogy is partly influenced by the role of the artist’s mother on the defence team in a notorious rape trial that took place in 1991.

Text written by Alessia Damioli as part of the partnership between the École du Louvre and Lafayette Anticipations – Fonds de dotation Famille Moulin.
