Ismail Alaoui Fdili

Born in 1992 at Casablanca (Morocco).
Ismail Alaoui Fdili's artistic practice is multifaceted, spanning sculpture, photography, performance and film.

In his work, Ismail Alaoui Fdili is interested in the margins and in people living in the interstice between social inclusion and exclusion. His experimental grounds are the waste collection centres and car parking areas, where he speaks with people whose occupations are socially underestimated, such as ragpickers, car guards and lookouts. Ismail Alaoui Fdili is also the founder and dean of the Université Internationale de Gardiennage de Voitures, based between Marrakech and Seine-Saint-Denis.

A graduate of the École nationale supérieure d'arts de Paris-Cergy and the Institut supérieur des arts et du design de Toulouse, Ismail Alaoui Fdili explored creation and artistic direction before joining the Kourtrajmé School in 2020 in the directing section, under the direction of Ladj Ly. In 2021, he begins a residency at the Ateliers Médicis (Clichy-Montfermeil) and the Fondation Fiminco (Romainville). In 2023, he takes part in the "Gunaikeîon" exhibition to mark the 40th anniversary of the Frac Île-de-France, and begins a residency at the Université Paris 8 to develop a mockumentary series. He is currently writing a short film about residence permits for foreign graduates.
