Escap'in(g)to You, Trap Series
Escap’in(g)to You is a stainless-steel sculpture from the Trap series, first exhibited as part of the exhibition Fleur, Feu at the Crédac – Centre d’art contemporain d’Ivry. Like the other works in the series, it is characterised by sensual curves and a clear biomorphism. Its sinuous lines seem to take shape by drawing on the surrounding cages, pulling from deep within them the force needed to distort their rigidity. In this way, they emerge from within the very structure that constrains them. These forms, which are difficult to identify, open up subversive possibilities and invite us to experience bodies and desires in a different way. Straddling the boundary between organism and machine, they seem to belong to a future as yet unknown, like the remnants of the vivisection of an animal-machine or hybrid beings in the process of emerging.
Work produced with the support of the Contemporary Art Center of Ivry – Le Crédac.
