Snowflakes is part of a series of sculptures comprising two spheres of the same dimensions, covered in faux fur and joined by a leather belt, created by K. Desbouis between 2024 and 2025. In this version, the artist adds the words “lovely” and “nice”, whose gentleness echoes the pastel pink and blue tones inspired by gender reveal parties. The series takes its form from leather ball stretchers, those BDSM accessories designed to stretch the scrotum. Whilst evoking two particles held in a state of erotic stasis, the sculpture can also be perceived as a single object—for example, a dog toy, a dumbbell, or two heads connected to one another. The title plays on this double meaning: it refers both to the story of Nancy Knight, who claimed to have discovered two identical snowflakes, and to the expression “snowflake generation”, which mocks a generation’s pretension to believe itself to be unique.
