Meriem Bennani

Born in 1988 in Rabat, Maroc

Meriem Bennani’s practice draws on a wide range of media, from video to sculpture and installation, to explore the possibilities of narrative. With a touch of humour, her works interweave globalised popular culture with vernacular representations of Moroccan history and traditions, questioning the fragmented identities of contemporary society. Through the lens of digital technologies, the artist examines and deconstructs gender representations whilst exaggerating reality through a fantastical imagination.

Born in 1988 in Rabat (Morocco), Meriem Bennani graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (2011) and the Cooper Union in New York (2012). She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York (United States).
