The ephemeral is at the heart of Anicka Yi’s work, as illustrated by a scented book made to burn, titled 7,070,430K of Digital Spit, a Memoir created in 2015 with the support of Lafayette Anticipations.
Yi is on a perpetual quest for the poetry stemming from smells, and has worked with the Fondation d’entreprise Galeries Lafayette to design a project and fragrance embodying memory loss. This perfume, conceived by Barnabé Fillion, is lathered over incense papers for the duration of several weeks. The fruit of this research is compiled in the book previously mentioned, made available in a limited edition. The book is also at the origin of the artist’s solo exhibit at Kunsthalle Basel. It is burned slowly, as prescribed by Anicka Yi, liberating incrementally its scent of amnesia.
